GLSV awarded Phase I Army SBIR for Variable Speed Cooling Fan

GLSV was recently awarded a SBIR Phase-I contract from the US Army to develop software, controls, and integration that will allow a Variable Speed Fan Drive (VSFD) to reduce the noise of the HMMWV engine cooling fan.

The engine cooling fan has been found to be the most significant acoustic detection event on multiple ground vehicles including the HMMWV. By implementing a VSFD in these situations, the fan could be activated at a reduced speed and a much lower acoustic output, lowering risk of detection for the Warfighter.
