Great Lakes Sound & Vibration, Inc.

Great Lakes Sound & Vibration Inc is a rapidly growing company that offers engineering consulting, innovative problem solving, concept development, fabrication, and light manufacturing. As our name suggests, we specialize in the areas of noise, vibration, and shock reduction. The company was formed in 1996. In 1999 we moved into a brand new facility. During the fall 2000 GLS&V completed an expansion. This expansion greatly enhanced our fabrication and concept build capabilities. In addition to increasing physical capabilities GLS&V enhanced both CAD and analysis capabilities. In 2001 GLS&V began construction of an hemi-anechoic test chamber and increased measurement capabilities by purchasing a B&K Pulse system. During the spring of 2002 GLS&V completed construction of a 20' X 38' X 12' hemi-anechoic test chamber. At present, GLS&V is completing a powertrain dynamometer test stand. This stand will be integrated with the recently completed test chamber.

At the present time the company services industrial and defense clientele. An immense amount of experience has been gained regarding product use, design constraints, design specifications and overall NVH requirements. Experiences include noise, vibration, and shock initiatives. Other project experiences include vibration related failure analysis, structural dynamic characterization, source identification, load assessments, load management, competitive benchmarking, and root cause studies. GLS&V can also provide comprehensive FEA and CFD analysis.

GLS&V has a proven record of providing complete component designs, prototype samples of those designs, and small volume production components. Recently GLS&V completed fabrication of an entire vehicle chassis structure. Presently the company is developing prototype isolation systems, individual mounts, engine/transmission structures, vehicle exhaust systems, vehicle sub-assemblies, vehicle air intake systems, and auxiliary vehicle systems.

This site offers comprehensive look at the many services we provide. We feel that our services are second to none. In most cases Great Lakes Sound & Vibration Inc can provide these services at a lower cost than other firms and companies offering similar services.

Company Profile

Great Lakes Sound & Vibration Inc was formed in 1996. At that time the owner was the sole employee. The company has grown considerably since that time. Our yearly sales have increased exponentially. We believe this growth is a result of providing superior service and innovative solutions at a fair cost.
At any particular time we have 3 to 4 major projects underway. Until Dec of 1999 we did not have a web site or any other form of marketing. Our clientele, and the services we offer, have grown only by word of mouth. We are extremely proud of the fact that we have made a positive impact for every customer we serve.

We seek projects that are challenging and require innovative thinking. Challenging projects present themselves in the form of difficult measurement environments, technically demanding problems, short timelines, low budgets, problems that have exhausted internal resources, or problems that do not appear to have a solution. As a testament to our creative thinking our customers have filed three patents. In addition, we have filed two internal patents.

References from past project work can be made available to potential customers. We feel the best way for you to assess our impact is by talking to people whom we have served. If given an opportunity, I think you will find that our services are cost effective and efficient. If you require any additional information please feel free to contact us. Thank you for your time and consideration.

General Information

GLS&V is located in Houghton, Michigan. We employ three engineers and two technicians, often drawing on the resources of our corporate partners. During 1999 our direct and indirect staff reached 20 members.

We commonly work on-site at customer locations. Engineers attend regular clientele staff and production planning meetings. We also work directly with suppliers that provide component and sub-systems to our customers. This requires defining requirements, setting specifications, supplier visits, and component verification. GLS&V has also represented our clientele in meetings with customers. In some cases this has included participation in market studies with end users.

Currently, we are responsible for designing entire systems for our clients. In this case our projects yield solid models/engineering drawings, analysis, prototype builds, test results, verification, tooling costs, piece costs, and projected manufacturing costs.
